Years ago we set out to convert our shop truck with a carbureted 22R engine in it. We quickly found out that the only parts available were for forklift engines. It is still that way today despite claims made otherwise. Since forklift conversions do not allow for good driveability we set out and designed our own kit. After designing a kit with the right sized components we did ours and some friends. This was many years before gotpropane got it's start. This is the only 22R propane conversion kit specifically designed for the 22R engine in a vehicle. It has great performance as well as great efficiency.
Toyota 22R Propane Conversion Kits.
Our kits are specially designed to bolt on carbureted 22R Toyota truck engines, and are designed to use your existing carburetor throttle plates. These are excellent conversions - very simple and clean. Most customers report back an increase in power! We test run and tune each and every one of the propane carburetors on our test truck to ensure the best mileage and power. Installation time should take 2 to 5 hours depending on your experience (this includes removal of your existing fuel system). There is little to no fabrication required.
20r engines require the use of a 22r carb base and an adapter from L.C. engineering to bolt it to the 20r manifold. These are street legal as long as your local emissions laws allow it.
22RE Propane kits.
We also have a kit designed to use the E.F.I. engine. They are designed to run propane only. Lose that smashed up gas tank and poor driveability due to faulty sensors and old wiring with bad connections. It requires a carbureted distributor and ignition coil. It retains the stock intake manifold and throttle cables. It is designed to remove all of the efi wiring and sensors related to gasoline, resulting in two wires required to power the engine!
We usually use about 5 to 6 gallons if we run the truck non-stop all day. This is rock crawling/ trail running, about 8 good ones! A typical day of normal trail riding uses about 4 gallons. There is no loss in power with these kits, only power gains!! These are legal for road use depending as long as your local emissions laws allow it.
Note: These are not forklift kits! Don't be fooled by other companies that claim to be the same. Unfortunately this is not the truth. There are several very important differences that affect power and longevity. It is equivalent to a one barrel carburetor! Compare it to my samurai kit minus parts!
When we originally set out to do the 22R engine all that was available were forklift components. We then designed a kit that uses equipment much better suited for high performance.
Price: $850 for the complete kit which includes tank brackets! $800without brackets. Does not come with a tank. (has brackets for one tank). This is the price for both the 22R and 22RE kit.
Dual Fuel Propane Kits for 22R Engines
After much request we are proud to announce our dual fuel kit for the 22r Toyota motor. This is for carbureted versions only. It can switch between propane and gasoline at the flick of a switch. It installs and tunes very easily and does not interfere with existing vacuum/emissions equipment. There is very little modification done to the vehicle with this kit.
Be aware of imitations! We are the designers of this kit and there are many small details that make this kit flawless.
Price: $875 complete minus tank.
$845 without tank bracket set!
I've been running this kit for about 2 1/2 years and it works awesome. It will literally run upside down.
Your propane kit woke up my truck!! Runs great at all angles, chugs down to 300rpm and lets me concentrate on driving instead of the old, stupid Weber. I've been running it a year and a half with no problems ( except keeping my foot out of it!!) Thanks Cary! mikevyota
King of the Hammers finisher on our propane kit!
We have come up with a way to connect the heater lines for the regulator without using the heater hose splices. Our competitor has called us several times to find out how we do it and have it offered as something new. We have been doing this for a long time now! The picture still shows them but they are no longer in the kits. Give us a call for details.
